Area 51 - Synopsis
Alarms and claxons thunder round the auditorium as the video
screen sparks into life, with a gaunt looking journalist, Dale Arden,
appearing on-screen. Flickering in and out of focus, she makes a desperate
final broadcast in the midst of a vicious alien invasion. The action then
shifts back to 24 hours previously: In "Stranger Than Fiction,"
the show's opening number, three young women recount the rumours surrounding
the mysterious Area 51 military base, and narrowly avoid being shot dead
by base security. We then enter the base, with Rick Adams, the facility's
lead researcher, being introduced in the effervescent "Resident Cool
Guy." The first act continues with the discovery of an extraterrestrial
radio signal, the entrance of a man claiming to have been abducted by
aliens and the unexpected emergence of a group of shadowy strangers. The
act closes with the arrival of a malevolent alien being in a manner which
no-one could have anticipated.
The second act begins with the instrumental, "Dance of the Possessed,"
harmonically representing the space invaders' psychic subjugation of Dolores
Fullborn; Adams' personal assistant and lover; and various other characters.
The tunes progress through several more twists and turns, and when the
curtain figuratively comes down following "Aftermath", audiences
will have discovered that, at least within Area 51, aliens and appearances
can prove to be deceiving
and deadly.
